Picton Neighbourhood Health & Children's Centre
Picton Neighbourhood Health and Children’s Centre, a primary care and children’s centre located in the Picton area of Liverpool, opened its doors to patients and children in early March.
The centre is the first under the LIFT initiative in Liverpool to combine a health centre with a local authority children’s centre. Located in a housing market renewal area, the centre has the potential to become a community hub. Its location on a corner plot, adjacent to both a regeneration area and the local retail facilities, makes it readily accessible for local people.
The design of the building is striking, with green and red cladding providing a contemporary feel. This reflects the spirit of the local area, which encompasses a wide range of ages and backgrounds.
The health facility provides 2100m2 of accommodation, designed to meet the needs of the local population and designed with flexibility in mind to cater for future changes in healthcare service delivery. The SureStart centre is located in a separate wing of the building and has a floor area of 520m2. There is also a non dispensing Pharmacy connected to the building, providing a service to the local community as well as the Health Centre.
The facility delivers a wide range of primary care services for the local community including:
- GP Treatment and Consultancy Services
- Practice & District Nurses
- Health Education
- Phlebotomy
- Dental Services
- Health Visitors
- Baby Clinics
- Incontinence Clinics
John Garrett, Director of A New Health Service for Liverpool & NHS LIFT, said “We are delighted that Picton Neighbourhood Health & Children’s Centre has opened its doors, and forms an important part of Liverpool’s strategy to improve provision and access to primary care for the people of the City of Liverpool.”
