The community garden at Princes Park in Liverpool, part of the LSHP LIFTCo portfolio, has been recognised with the Wellbeing award at this year’s NHS Forest Awards, celebrating its positive impact on patients, staff and the wider community.

Supported by Community Health Partnerships (CHP) and Liverpool and Sefton Health Partnerships (LSHP), the project has transformed an underused area within the primary care site into a thriving community garden that supports health, wellbeing and stronger community connections.

Created through a collaborative approach between CHP, healthcare staff, local organisations, volunteers and residents, the garden features sustainable raised beds, growing fruit, vegetables, herbs and flowers, helping to tackle health inequalities, food insecurity and limited access to green space.

It has become an important part of healthcare delivery and community life, providing opportunities for people to learn new skills, build social connections and spend time outdoors. Fresh produce is shared with patients, while regular gardening sessions support people experiencing loneliness, anxiety and other health challenges.

The garden is also helping clinicians deliver more personalised care, offering an alternative environment for people who may find traditional healthcare settings difficult to access.

The award recognises the impact that investment in NHS LIFT estate can have on local communities. Through funding and supporting the development of the garden alongside partners, CHP has helped create a thriving community asset that supports health and wellbeing and strengthened community connection.

"We're delighted to see Princes Park Community Garden recognised with this NHS Forest Wellbeing Award. What started as an underused space has become a thriving community asset, bringing people together, supporting health and wellbeing, and helping create stronger connections within the local community. This award highlights the positive impact that can be achieved when healthcare organisations, partners, volunteers and residents work together to create greener, healthier places for everyone."
